A Head Above the Rest

Jean Paul is 17 years old and in the 6th grade. While it is not uncommon for many in Rwanda to start school later in life, many at least have the opportunity to work toward an education. For Jean Paul, he has not been afforded the same opportunity. After overcoming a challenging home life, he now has to stay full-time at a youth center that will allow him to keep working toward furthering his education. He has fought for an opportunity to go to school when even his own family would not let him. Despite the challenges, Jean Paul continues to persevere to better himself and his friends.
