About Me

Hi, I’m Kenneth Ferriera, a photo editor at the Lincoln Journal Star. I’ve also worked at the Greensboro News & Record, the Omaha World-Herald, Cedar County News, HuskerVision, and The Daily Nebraskan. I earned a journalism degree from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, with an emphasis in photographic and video storytelling.

I was born in Alabama and grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in an Air Force family. Most of my extended family lives in North Carolina, where I spent many of my summers.

As a photojournalist, I believe good work starts with being part of the community. I try to approach people as I would a neighbor: with respect, honest curiosity, and a willingness to listen. I’m always looking to learn more about the people and issues shaping the communities I cover.

My work has been recognized in several competitions. I regularly participate in the NPPA’s monthly clip contest and have placed multiple times. As part of a team, I’ve received the APSE Grand Slam award and placed in the top 10 in the action and feature photo categories in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

My Hearst Awards include third place in the 2020 Photojournalism competition, fifth place in the 2018 Multimedia Feature competition, eighth place in Multimedia News and 12th place in the Portfolio competition in 2019, along with second- and fifth-place finishes in the Hearst Team Multimedia category.
