I was born in Alabama but grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming in an Air Force family. The rest of my family is scattered throughout North Carolina, where I spent the majority of my summers.
My approach as a photojournalist is to be a part of a community, and approach people as I would a neighbor and listen to what they have to say. I approach my work with honest curiosity and a strong desire to learn about the issues affecting the community.

Some of the awards I have won: I am a regular participant in the NPPA’s monthly clip contest, and have placed regularly, I am part of a team that has won the APSE Grand Slam award, and placed in the top 10 in actiona and feature photo categories in 2023, 2024, and 2025, third place in the 2020 Hearst Photojournalism competition, fifth place in the 2018 Hearst multimedia feature, eighth in 2019 multimedia news, 12th place in the 2019 Hearst portfolio, and subsequent awards of 2nd, and 5th in the Hearst Team Multimedia category.
