Student built electric vehicles power up at EVRON race
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's tractor testing track was repurposed Saturday as about 30 high school students raced their self-built, battery-powered go-karts. The go-karts, powered by a maximum of two car batteries, traveled dozens of times around the 0.42-mile track with the goal to complete the most laps within 60 minutes. The hourlong race brought together teams from Deshler, Friend and Wayne, as well as a team from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was the second of four Power Drive events hosted by nonprofit Everon: Electric Vehicle Energy Research of Nebraska.
